Title: When is span_n(G) approximatively compact?

Abstract: When G is a compact family of characteristic functions, we show that the set span_n(G) of n-fold linear combinations is approximatively compact with respect to the L^p-metric for all p in the closed interval [1,\infty] and all n >= 1 Examples are considered. This is joint work with V. Kurkova.
