Seminar in Functional Analysis
and Related Areas

Wednesday, January 24, 2018
4:45 - 6:30 p.m. (including a coffee-break)
Aquinas Hall, Room 108

Speaker: Professor Paul Kainen, Georgetown University

Title: Best approximation by zero-one functions

Abstract: The talk extends previous work by the speaker, with Vera Kurkova and Andrew Vogt. Results involve the geometry of $L_p$ spaces, convexity, closedness, compactness, and some set-theory lemmas. If time permits, a further extension to Banach-algebra-valued functions will be considered.
